A quoted per-mile rate can look strong until you add deadhead, wait time, tolls, platform fees, maintenance, fixed overhead and taxes. Use the calculator as a floor-building tool, then evaluate each job by total dollars, total miles and total time.
What should be in fixed costs?
Van payment or depreciation, insurance, phone, software, registrations, storage, recurring subscriptions and any other cost you pay even when the van does not move.
What should be in variable costs?
Fuel, maintenance reserve, tires, tolls, parking, payment fees, factoring or dispatch costs and cargo-specific expenses.
